#PedalPastCancer to benefit the FCS Foundation!

On April 22, 2018, Dr. Jennifer Cultrera and the “FCS Tumornators” will hit the ground cycling in Gran Fondo, Costa Rica, to complete a 93 mile bike ride through the wilderness with approximately 6,000+ feet of ascent to raise money for cancer patients in need!

Dr. Cultrera’s Story:

Twenty years ago, on April 22nd, 1998, I lost control of my life. I was in involved in a motor vehicle accident, in which I was severely injured and nearly lost my life. Several times during my recovery I was told I would never walk again, I would never run, ride a bicycle or do the things that we all take for granted every day. As I recovered, I relied on others to nurse me back to health and bring me hope that I would walk and live a “normal” life. This experience was life changing and helped shape me into the physician I am today. I am constantly striving to help patients, in the clinic, with research and in the outdoors to help raise vital funds that can assist and support patients through the journey of fighting for life.

As I was introduced to cycling as a way to get fit and achieve weight loss, I learned of the sport fundraising arm of Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and American Cancer Society. Through marathons, triathlons, and century rides, we have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars. On April 22, 2018, twenty years to the day I almost lost my life and my leg, I am going to hit the pavement at Gran Fondo, Costa Rica. A 93 mile bicycle ride through the wilderness of Costa Rica with approximately 6,000+ feet of ascent. It will be one of the hardest adventures in my life. I think it will also be one of the most fulfilling.

This ride will be dedicated to my patients who need financial assistance with everyday living expenses; all donations will directly benefit the FCS Foundation. Through my efforts, I hope to bring relief to patients in their struggle with this devastating disease.
