Meet the Foundation’s New Executive Director

We are pleased to announce the promotion of Lynn Rasys to Executive Director, following the retirement of Valerie Vance. Previously, Lynn was the Foundation’s Volunteer Program Manager responsible for recruiting, training and scheduling volunteers at facilities currently participating in the FCS Volunteer Patient Support Program. She also coordinated the volunteers at the Foundation office in Sarasota and at Foundation events.
In her new role as Executive Director, Lynn will oversee all aspects of the FCS Foundation, including strategic planning, financial oversight, staff management, program development and execution of the Foundation’s mission, vision and goals. “I am thrilled to be a part of the great team at the Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation and excited about what the future holds,” Lynn said. “One of the most significant things about the FCS Foundation is that we are able to have an immediate impact on cancer patients in need, and it is extremely satisfying to witness the big difference that the Foundation is making in these patients’ lives.”

Mary Sudyka – Lead Patient Support Volunteer in Port Charlotte

Mary Sudyka grew up in South Hadley, Massachusetts. She received her Master’s degree in barbering and was the first female barber in Western Massachusetts. Mary’s work experience included Outreach Director for the South Hadley Chamber, teacher and board member for Dean Vocational School.Shortly after retiring and moving to Florida, Mary was diagnosed with breast cancer.  With the help of her doctors, nurse practitioner and nurses, Mary is happy to report that she is now cancer free.  Her doctor suggested she might enjoy volunteering, and she says she has never regretted one day. “I get so many hugs from the patients and each day I look forward to seeing every one of them,” said Mary. “Florida Cancer Specialists is a very caring place. I’m happy to say that I am not only a volunteer but a patient too!”

Touching Patients’ Lives

“I cannot thank you enough for your assistance at this point in time. Every single person has been a wonderful help to me and has shown me that they genuinely care about me and my health. You have changed my year drastically! Thank you for all you do for me and all the others who are battling this terrible disease.”  – J.H.

Tampa Fundraiser Attracts Families and Friends

On March 25, over 250 people gathered in the Tampa Cancer Center parking lot for the Foundation’s first Crawfish Boil. The event featured live Cajun music, raffles, a balloon artist and face painting. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers RV was on-site, along with the Bucs cheerleaders. The Tampa Bay Lighting provided a photobooth, and the Lightning girls and Thunder Bug posed with guests. One of the highlights of the event was the dunk tank where guests were encouraged to take a shot at dunking FCS doctors and executive management. The event raised $18,000 to assist cancer patients with their non-medical living expenses.

Spring Brings New Reasons to Celebrate

Special events in life give us reason to celebrate: birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, graduations, a team win… or even reaching a long sought-after milestone.
Instead of sending flowers or a gift, consider celebrating something or someone by making a donation to Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation. Your gift will help a cancer patient with household bills and necessary living expenses so they can concentrate on something really worth celebrating – getting better. What a powerful way to celebrate something, or someone, very important to you!
FCS employees may utilize payroll deductions for celebration donations. Please contact if you need assistance.
